Highly recommend a visit here to this outstanding museum. Vassar was the first college to create a museum and their collection is both deep and diverse. Also free! Along with a walk around the lovely college grounds and torn makes a delightful day
A small (free) gallery with an interesting collection covering ancient to current time.
An interesting ongoing work encourages you to add your own input.
There's also currently a fun installation consisting of a pile of candy that you're encouraged to sample. Yum!
If you're in the area, it's well worth a look. The grounds and Chapel are another reason to go.
Free 2 hour parking for visitors.
I kept forgetting the breadth of the artwork displayed here, having not visited in many years, but I think I'll remember here on out. I liked the contemporary Black art and the ancient Roman art the best.
I finally visited the museum and I was frankly surprised the breadth of its collection which includes more well known artists as well as lesser known, and also exhibits by their faculty and students. Definitely worth a visit and it’s free!
A lovely small museum. The show we saw with pieces from the Spellman College collection was beautiful and the history so interesting. The Vassar collection artworks were excellently curated also.
Dominic, the docent, made our visit so very memorable! He was so kind, supportive, and willing to teach my four and six year old boys literally around every corner. I learned so much from him and will remember this afternoon and how he touched our family for years to come. This museum has a beautiful selection of a wide range of historic and modern pieces from around the world. It is also free and on a gorgeous campus with pretty accessible street parking. Store has a small selection of lovely magnets and keychains, but bring cash/check.
A great local gem! I was impressed with the range and quality of the permanent collection, and the visiting exhibit was awesome. Don't miss the sculpture garden outside, it was impressive, along with the trees.
For a small museum, this place is packed with great works from antiquities to modern. They have a wonderful Hudson River Valley School collection and works by Picasso, O'Keefe, Rothko, Cezanne, Calder and more. And admission is free!
